On Page VS Off Page Techniques

On Page VS Off Page Techniques

It can be a real challenge to learn about search engine optimization (SEO). However, it can be much easier when you realize that SEO is generally separated into two categories: on-page SEO and off-page SEO.

Below, we will discuss what each category means, and we will include some techniques associated with each one.  Before diving in you should know that there are many different types of software available to help you with these processes.  Take the time to learn more about tools and software for seo.

Understanding On Page SEO Techniques

On-page SEO entails things that you can do within your website to improve search engine rankings. Aspects of coding, web design, graphics management, and file usage can all affect your on-page SEO. Here are a few examples:

  • Keyword Utilization – Keywords are used to establish the relevance of a website to a search term. Keywords are vital in meta tags, the title of your web page, and the content of your site. You should always focus on long-tail keywords rather than short, broad keywords, as long-tail keywords have been shown to work better and will organically relate to the broad term later.
  • Proper Coding – Every programmer, or “coder,” has their own way of doing things, and sometimes, it is their signature. However, this does not mean it is proper. In the same way, you can abridge and edit a book, you can clean up bad coding. Efficient coding ensures an efficient website, thus helping your SEO.
  • Using a Unique URL for Each Page – Every page should have its own unique URL. For example, if your URL for an article would be domain.com/article1, that isn’t very unique. Change the filename to keywords, separated by a hyphen, that relate to the article and your website, like domain.com/title-of-your-article. Content Management Systems (CMS), like WordPress or Drupal, do this by default.

Understanding Off Page Techniques

Off-page SEO refers to things that affect your website ranking outside of your web server. Some of these you can control, but other things you cannot control (directly or indirectly). These are some examples of off-page SEO techniques:

  • Backlinks – Backlinks are links from sites that link to your website. Purchasing backlinks, used by some people, is not recommended. This is because sites should link to you naturally and organically, and this is preferred by search engine algorithms. In general, sites that are relevant to your site and have a higher ranking will improve your rankings when they link to you.
  • Guest Blogging – This is an example of something that you can do to improve your off-page SEO. Find a website that ranks better than yours in the same niche, and ask if you can do a guest post in exchange for a backlink. Some webmasters are more than happy to that because they are always looking for new, quality content for their websites.
  • Social Media Presence – Having a good social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and others can improve your off-page SEO. Merely creating a profile or page on a social media site is not enough. You must post relevant, engaging content, and interact with others regularly to maintain a strong social media presence. If your social media accounts are dormant, it would be better if you never created those accounts.

Now that you have some examples of what on-page and off-page SEO are, it’s now time to get to work and implement them on your website. While both categories require some time, research, and hard work, the benefits will definitely pay off in the long term.
